North Caldwell NJ was first incorporated in 1898 from portions of Caldwell Township, which is now known as Fairfield Township. This may sound confusing because there is a Caldwell NJ. Just to confuse you more, in 1982 North Caldwell passed a referendum to become a township. Then 10 years later changed the name back to North Caldwell Borough.
This small 3 square mile borough borders multiple towns in Essex County and Passaic County. In Essex County the bordering towns are: Caldwell, Cedar Grove, Essex Fells, Fairfield, Verona and West Caldwell. In Passaic County the bordering towns are Little Falls and Wayne.
North Caldwell Public Schools
North Caldwell is home to the West Essex Regional School District will also serves students from Fairfield, Essex Fells and Roseland. The West Essex School District offers one middle school West Essex Middle School for grades 7th-8th and one high school West Essex High School for grades 9th-12th.
