Oakland, NJ was incorporated as a borough in 1902 from portions of Franklin Township, which is now known as Wyckoff, NJ. The name Oakland comes from the abundance of white oak trees that can be found throughout the borough.
For those who enjoy the outdoors you’ll be happy to know that the Ramapo Mountain State Forest is only minutes away and can be easily accessed from Skyline Drive and I-287. Local shopping and restaurants are mostly located along Route 202 with a few big name retails stores.

Oakland NJ Public Schools
Public school students are served by Oakland Public Schools for grades K-8th. The Oakland public school system offers three elementary schools and one middle school. Students in K-5 will attend either Dogwood Elementary School, Heights Elementary School or Manito Elementary School. Students will then attend Valley Middle School for grades 6-8.
Students in grades 9-12 are served by the Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School District. Students entering their freshman year will have the option of attending either Indian Hills High School which is located in Oakland or Ramapo High School which is located in Franklin Lakes.

Oakland NJ Highways, Buses and Trains
